Brain and Its Rejuvenation
Our brain is a plastic, and it can be moulded and manipulated by the help of surroundings, food and the roasting of thoughts.
Modern neuroscience has discovered that in every fraction of a second there is formation and breakage of neural connections. This process starts from the very first day of birth and continues till the last day of life. These neural junctions are also called synapses. And there are approximately 90 billion neurons in the human brain.
The formation of synapses is a continuous process because when we think or ponder about any specific subject or matter then formation of synapses begins, and new ideas start pouring because of new neural connections. These synapses get stronger when we repeat this process again and again, and these junctions become unbreakable.
There is a very common phenomenon that we cannot control our thoughts or thinking patterns. Of course, it is, but we have control over our surroundings in which people around us and what we used to do in our personal lives are also included. Because our surroundings and people in our lives always have a profound impact on our thinking and, thinking is what, is the formation of synapses.
So rightly said by someone,"we are what we think in seclusion."
There are five senses, about which almost all of us have an idea, that play a vital role in our thinking process; meaning what we think very often and then how we manifest our behaviour and attitude towards others.
Our senses work as input devices, we collect data through senses and transfer it to the brain and the brain stores it in different parts.
Hippocampus is the part of the brain which is known for memory storage. It is pertinent to mention here that we have two types of memories, working memory and permanent memory. Each memory plays its specific part according to its usage.
We mostly rely on our working memory, which is stored in the prefrontal cortex, a part of the brain located just above the forehead. In our daily routine we meet people and do chores of different sorts, which we don't remember and after a day or two we tend to forget about it, or don't remember clearly. In the same way, we meet people but forget their names on the very second day. This whole process undergoes in working memory, which we can also call short-term memory.
There are many things which we do on 'autopilot' and remember all the time, even in anesthesia. Why? Because those chores which we do very frequently become the part of our permanent memory and also those folks to whom we come across regularly or have any emotional attachment, never fail to remember them undoubtedly.
It is believed that when anything or anyone got attached with emotions would not sweep off from memory because it bursts into it.
How our senses and memory works, as a main source of material providers for thinking, is now easy to comprehend. Because data stored in permanent memory always has its significance in our rumination ability, like past experiences or events influence our choices and decisions.
An angle of observing things develops in our thinking process according to our experiences. As we all have heard many times that "everyone has his own angle of contemplation". And every other person is different in observing things. This is so true that one person can never see what the other sees. This has also been explained by a renowned philosopher 'Bertrand Russell' that the angle of reflection of light from an image is different geometrically for persons sitting side by side.
We can assess better by shifting our stance, if the outcome is unsatisfactory in our current perspective. Because by changing our viewpoint we can see new unseen vistas and evaluate them flawlessly, which will help us in developing our opinion in broader concepts.
In the same way, if we look into the data which we garner through senses, and provide it to the brain, our brain carves the patterns of our thinking according to the provision of raw material by senses.
Here a solution emerged for the transformation of thinking patterns, or thoughts that if we want to elevate our thinking level and desire to get rid of some unwanted and futile thoughts. For this, we must first have to look into our supply line, like if we are regularly joining a gathering or social circle which is not productive or trivial, or we used to watch irrelevant, negative and insignificant things which obsessed us and don't allow us to think in an intelligible manner or above the stereotype level. Then, first and the foremost important thing we have to do is, delimit the intake of such a nasty stuff and to start consumption of quality material, which we consider appropriate and fruitful for us.
These worthwhile things can be attained by employing a few healthy activities like reading worthy books of any genre, interacting with academics and veterans and listening to productive and relevant lectures of scholars. Sports and exercise are no less important than the above-mentioned activities, and also have a high standing in one's life.
All these objectives can be achieved with one prerequisite which is a 'true appetite' or 'grit' for enlightenment.
